Hello all & God bless you & yours!
I would like to continue with this series of posts entitled, “VOTE THE BIBLE ELECTION 2008”.
This past week, I was driving to work listening to an early morning radio news broadcast. One of the headlines was about one of our presidential candidates who was in a particular state and the question of the hour for him from potential supporters was concerning the economy and how his policies would affect them and their families.
While I can understand peoples concern over the current state of the economy and how that affects them and will affect them, when it comes to whom we should vote into office, we have to ask ourselves the question (especially those of us who are Christians), “Is God concerned about this issue more so than some of the other issues that are are either supported or opposed by the candidates that I would cast my vote for?”.
Is God as concerned about this issue as I am?
To put it another way, “Is this important to God?”. We know the issue about our nations economy is important to us, is priority for some of us, but is it important to God? Is it a priority to God?
How do we, as voters, determine if any particular issue is important to God? How do we, as voters, determine if any particular issue is a priority with God?
We go to the Word of God, the Holy Bible!
In this post, I would like to submit for your consideration that God is not nearly as concerned with the state of our nations economy (or ours for that matter!) or our national defense when held up against the weightier issues of abortion, stem cell research, sex education in our schools promoting safety instead of abstinence and same-sex marriage.
Isn't the state of our national economy important and shouldn't we be doing something about it? Yes, we should!
Shouldn't national defense be a priority in light of all the threats that we are facing, both at home and abroad, as citizens of the United States of America? Of course it should!
But not at the expense of offending God by voting into office candidates whose agenda does not line up with God's agenda.
I would like to share with you some verses that, I believe, reveal that we are overly concerned about issues that God is not concerned about. We are majoring on things that God considers minor, while we consider certain issues to be minor that God considers major!
Let me elaborate:
Jesus said this in Matthew 6:31-33:
“So don't worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the heathen? For they take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them. But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, and he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as he wants you to.” (The Living Bible)
You see Brothers & Sisters in Christ and Friends, we are “deeply concerned” about an issue that God says we should not be worried about at all, that being, our financial well being which directly affects whether or not we have enough “food and clothing”, i.e. the necessities of life.
And because we are worried about an issue that God says we shouldn't be worried about (the state of the national economy, for we believe it will affect our economy) we make the decision to vote into office men and women who are Pro-Choice (for abortion), will strengthen and fight to keep intact Roe vs. Wade and who are clearly, from a Biblical standpoint, at odds with God (EXODUS 21:22-25 ; LEVITICUS 20:1-5 ; JEREMIAH 32:35 ; PSALM 139:13-20).
When we make decisions like this we are only proving the truthfulness and accuracy of God's Word, when the Apostle Paul said, “For the love of money is the first step towards all kinds of sin.” (1 TIMOTHY 6:10).
Some would say, “Well, it's not that I love money, I just fear being without and thus not being able to meet my needs and the needs of my family.” Point taken, but the Word of God says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 TIMOTHY 1:7).
If we vote into office a man or woman who holds positions on issues that God does not because we are afraid for our well-being, we sin on two points: 1) we support platforms that God does not and 2) we allow ourselves to be led by a “spirit of fear” in our decision making rather than by faith in God's Word who said that if we will seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness then all these things (the things that we are worried about concerning our economic conditions) will be added unto us (MATTHEW 6:33 KJV).
Let's not make these mistakes, Brothers & Sisters and Friends!
I realize that I have not addressed all that I said I was going to address in this posting. For brevity's sake, I will continue from where I left off, God-willing, in the next posting.
God bless you as you continue to prayerfully weigh the platforms of this years candidates against the standard of God's holy Word, by which we will either stand or fall, as individuals, as families, as cities and as a nation.
